Mohammad Salameh Obaidat is a Full Professor at the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA, in 1982 and 1986, respectively.
The internationally well-known scientist/scholar has served as a consultant for several corporations and organizations worldwide such as NSF, NSA, DHS, World Bank, UNDP, Nokia, Kevin Kennedy Associates, Forensis, GTECH, INSTICC, Helsinki University of Technology, Tampere University of Technology, Oslo University, Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Dalian University of Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, The Amity University, University of Seville, University of Girona, Centurion University of Technology & Management, Wiley, Elsevier, Springer, University Putra Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia, MRAA, Trasnsoft, Gerhard Cibis, Xi’dian University, Yunnan Minzu University, Cambridge University Press, Haldia Institute of Technology, Fudan University, among others.
Prof. Obaidat has also served as distinguished speaker and visitor of IEEE Computer Society (1994-1997). Since 1995, he has been serving as an ACM distinguished Lecturer. He is also an SCS distinguished Lecturer.
Prof. Obaidat served as an IEEE/ACM program evaluator of the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board/Commission, CSAB/CSAC (1996-1999), and as an ABET evaluator to evaluate engineering and computing science programs in North America and Worldwide.
He is the founder and first Chairman of SCS Technical Chapter (Committee) on PECTS (Performance Evaluation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems). He has worked as the Scientific Advisor for the World Bank/UN Digital Inclusion Workshop-The Role of Information and Communication Technology in Development. He has served as a member of the board of directors of the Society for Computer Simulation International (1995-2002). He was the Vice President of Conferences of the Society for Modeling and Simulation International SCS (2002-2004). Prof. Obaidat has served as Vice President of Membership of the Society for Modeling and Simulation International SCS (2004-2006). He has served as the Senior Vice President of SCS (2006-2009) and served as the President of SCS (2009-2011). Moreover, six of his recent papers have received the best paper awards from IEEE AICCSA 2009, IEEE GLOBCOM 2009, IEEE DCNET 2011, and IEEE CITS 2013, IEEE CITS 2016 and IEEE CITS 2017 International Conferences.
Prof. Obaidat is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Wiley Security and Privacy Journal to start in January 2018. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Wiley International Journal of Communication Systems since 1997, the FTRA Journal of Convergence. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of the KSIP Journal of Information Processing.
He also serves as editor of many international scholarly journals including IEEE Wireless Communications, IEEE Systems Journal, Simulation: Transactions of the Society for Modeling and Simulations (SCS) International, Elsevier Computer Communications Journal, Springer Journal of Supercomputing, IET Wireless Sensor Systems, SCS Journal of Defense Modeling and Simulation, International Journal of Communication Networks and Distributed Systems, The Academy Journal of Communications, International Journal of BioSciences and Technology, International Journal of Information Technology and ICST Transactions on Industrial Networks and Intelligent Systems, among others.
Prof. Obaidat is the founder of two well-known international conferences: The International Conference on Computer, Information and Telecommunication Systems (CITS) and the International Symposium on Performance Evaluation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems (SPECTS). He is also the co-founder of the International Conference on Data Communication Networking, DCNET and SIMULTECH.
He is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including a Nokia Research Fellowship Award; the distinguished Fulbright Scholar Award; the SCS Outstanding Service Award for his excellent leadership, services and technical contributions; and very recently the Society for Modeling and Simulation Intentional (SCS) prestigious McLeod Founder's Award in recognition of his outstanding technical and professional contributions to modeling and simulation.
In Dec 2010, he received the IEEE ComSoc- GLOBECOM 2010 Outstanding Leadership Award for his outstanding leadership of Communication Software Services and Multimedia Applications Symposium, CSSMA 2010; and the Society for Modeling and Simulation International’s (SCS) prestigious Presidential Service Award for his outstanding unique, long-term technical contributions and services to the profession and society. He was inducted to SCS Modeling and Simulation Hall of Fame – Lifetime Achievement Award for his technical contribution to modeling and simulation and for his outstanding visionary leadership and dedication to increasing the effectiveness and broadening the applications of modeling and simulation worldwide. Prof. Obaidat was also awarded the IEEE CITS Hall of Fame Distinguished and Eminent Award in 2017, the Amity University Distinguished Honorary Professor Award, and the Distinguished Visiting Professor Award from University of Science and Technology-Beijing, China.
Prof. Obaidat has delivered over 150 invited keynote speeches worldwide. He is a very highly accomplished scholar who has published over 55 book, 55 book chapters and over 740 refereed scholarly Journal and Conference Proceedings papers- more than half of them are journal articles.
As a worldwide prolific renowned author/scholar, his papers receive very high citations. He has the highest citations among ALL Engineering and IT Faculty members/scholars in ALL Jordanian Universities and with a distinguished noticeable ranking. He is also the only Fellow of IEEE and only Fellow of SCS in Jordan.
He has made pioneering and lasting contributions to the multifaceted areas of computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, information science, especially cyber security, wireless networks, computer networks, telecommunication systems, information security, network security, performance evaluation, modeling and simulation, parallel computer architecture, modeling and simulation, performance evaluation of computer systems and networks, Learning automata, speech recognition, among others.
Prof. Obaidat is a Fellow of the Society for Modeling and Simulation International SCS, and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Throughout his academic career, Obaidat has held many positions in Jordan and abroad, including Advisor to the President of Philadelphia University for Research, Development and Information Technology; President of the Society for Molding and Simulation International, SCS; Dean of the College of Engineering at Prince Sultan University; Chair and Professor at the Department of Computer and Information Science and Director of the MS Graduate Program in Data Analytics at Fordham university; and Chair and Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Director of the Graduate Program at Monmouth University, USA.
He further served as Chair of the Evaluation Committee of King Abdullah II Award on Innovation in Science, consultant for UJ in matters related to the establishment of the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology, consultant for Al- Balqa’ Applied University in establishing the Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Computer System Engineering Programs, and Intentional Advisor for the Hashemite University of Jordan.
When asked for advice for aspiring young scholars, Prof. Obaidat emphasized the importance of focusing on your goals. "Do not look for handclapping. It is addictive; when you acquire some of it, you crave for more, it can easily derail you from your undertaking, principles, goals, and career" he said.
