As a visiting lecturer in the Department of Linguistics, I’ve been afforded the opportunity to teach courses in the department as well as contribute to UJ’s new Blended Learning initiative. I received an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Columbia University and have taught at universities in the United States, Turkey, and now Jordan. My passion is teaching the English language and mentoring novice teachers and I’m fortunate to do both in the Department of Linguistics.
My experience mentoring teachers began at a private Turkish university more than four years ago, continued in New York City where I trained novices in an TEFL Certificate program at Columbia University, and has followed me to Jordan where I’m able to train primary and middle school English language teachers in Amman as well as lead professional development workshops for faculty at our university.
What truly makes me love coming to the university every day is the creativity, enthusiasm, and willingness to try new things of the students in the Department of Linguistics. I feel particularly fortunate to have experienced both incoming freshman and outgoing seniors during my short time at this university and I’m continuously impressed by the hard work students are willing to invest in their education. I look forward to another productive year with my colleagues and students in our faculty.
