Former Minster of Social Development and Professor Ameen A. Al Mashaqbeh was born and raised in Mafraq, Jordan, received his high school diploma from Mafraq High School in 1974, graduated from the University of Jordan in 1978 with a Bachelor of Political Science, followed by a master’s degree in International Relations from Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey, USA, in 1980, a master’s degree in Comparative Politics from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA, in 1984, and a PhD in Political Science/ Comparative Politics also from the University of Southern California in 1986.

After earning his PhD, Dr. Mashaqbeh was appointed assistant professor of political science at Yarmouk University, Jordan, where he was promoted to associate professor in 1993 and professor in 2003.  He also served on the teaching staff of Kuwait University, Kuwait, 2002-2004, the Applied Science University, Jordan, 1996-2000, and the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy, 1998 - 2002.

Dr. Mashaqbeh joined UJ as a faculty member at Prince Al Hussien Bin Abdullah II School of International Studies, Department of Political Science, in 2010.
 
Dr. Mashaqbeh’s experience extends beyond academia to include government positions and partaking in many public committees. He was appointed Minister of Social Development, 1991-1993, Chairman of the Board of Director of the National Aid Fund, 1991-1993, Chairman of the Interim Committee of the General Union of Voluntary Societies, 2007-2011, Member of the Economic and Social Council, 2007 - 2011, Chairman of the Jordan Press and Publishing Company "Addustour" (part-time) in 2011, and member of the Higher Education Council, 2009-2011.
 
The educational consultant, political analyst and writer is also a highly accomplished scholar with over 30 research articles and 17 books. He has also participated in over 30 local, national and international conferences and symposia.
