Professor Emeritus of Graeco-Roman Archaeology Nabil Khairy received his Bachelor Degree in Archeology from the University of Jordan (UJ) in 1966, Diploma in Tourism Marketing from the International Center for Advanced Tourism Studies, Tourism Marketing, Geneva, Switzerland in 1969, MA and PhD in Classical Art and Archaeology from London University in 1972 and 1975.

Professor Khairy was first appointed as assistant professor at UJ in 1975. In 1980 he was promoted to associate professor, and in October 1985 he became a full professor. Dr. Nabil has been awarded the title of Emeritus Professor in 2013 in acknowledgement of more than 40 years' distinguished academic service.

Prof. Khairy held several administrative and academic positions at UJ, including Chairman of the Department of Archeology and Director of the Archeological Museum and Museum of National Heritage (1990-1994), Vice-dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (1994-1995) and (1996-1997), Chairman of the Department of Archaeology, (Sept. 1998 - Sept. 1999), Vice-dean for Scientific Research & Graduate Studies, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences (Sept. 1999 - Sept. 2000) and (Sept. 1, 2005- Sept. 16, 2006), Chairman of the Department of Archaeology (August 10, 2007 – September 10, 2008), and Dean of the Faculty of Archeology and Tourism (2010-2012).

Throughout his academic path, Prof. Khairy went on many teaching and research visits in Jordan and abroad. He taught graduate and postgraduate courses at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA, (1988- 1989); University of Torino, Italy, (1995); University of Malta, Malta, (1998 and 1999); University of Western Australia, Pirth, Australia, (2001); La Sierra University, Riverside, California, USA, (Sept. 2003 – July 2004); and at Yarmouk University, Irbid, Jordan, (August 2009 till September 2010).

Dr. Khairy served as the Chief Editor of the SNC International Refereed Bulletin, and the Organizer of the International Conference on the Nabataean Culture which was held in Petra under the Patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein (May 5-8, 2012), and in Provo, Utah, USA at Brigham Young University (May 6-9, 2015), and serves as members in many national and international scientific & professional institutions including, Aram, Oxford University, England, The Jordanian – Italian Archaeological Research Center, Amman, Committee of Remote Sensing & Data Base, joint project of the University of Jordan & European Union, Brussels.

Prof. Khairy was awarded the fellowships of Alexander von Humboldt – Stiftung, Germany, the Deutsches Archaologisches Inistitut in Berlin, Germany, Fulbright Scholar grant (1988-1989) and (2003-2004), and the Deutsches Archaologisches Institute in Berlin, Germany (June 1994- 2002) fellowship. In addition, he received the DAAD Scholarship, Germany in 2001, the DFG Award to run research at the DAI in Berlin in 2010, and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft research grant (German Research Foundation), (June – August, 2010).

He served as editorial board member of the Yarmouk Numismatics, a Refereed Research Journal, between 1992- 1996, and the Editorial Board of the Saudi Historical Society (1998-1999).

Since 1970s, Prof. Khairy has taken part as supervisor, director and co-director in many excavation field projects in Jordan, he has also supervised and examined more than 63 M.A. and Ph.D. thesis locally and abroad.

Dr. Nabil is the recipient of many national and international honorary awards and acknowledgements, including a certificate awarded for the distinguished services, developing, and promoting the Archaeology of Jordan, officially ordered by His Highness Prince Hassan Bin Talal of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, 1988; certificate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) acknowledging and celebrating the distinguished Services during the 1988 - 1989 academic year, 1990; certificate of appreciation for the implementation of the HERIT Project, co-ordinate by the UNIMED, Rome, and the European Commission; Certificate of Appreciation for teaching contribution, University of Western Australia, Pirth; certificate of the J. William Foreign Scholarship Board and the U.S. Department of State Award; and the certificate of La Sierra University, Riverside, California, acknowledging and celebrating his distinguish services as a Visiting Professor.

Professor Khairy is a highly accomplished scholar with more than 43 scientific journal articles and books. He has attended and presented papers at numerous conferences both home and abroad.
