Ghassan Omet is a full professor at the Department of Finance at the School of Business. He received his B.A. degree in Economics & Government from the University of Essex, UK, in 1979; his Master degree in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, UK, in 1982; and his Ph.D. degree in Finance from Henley-The-Management College, U.K, in 1989.

 

Throughout his academic career, Professor Omet has held several Faculty and Administrative positions at UJ, including Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration (1995 - 1998) and the Dean of Scientific Research (2011 - 2012). He also assumed the position of Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Administrative Sciences at the Hashemite University, Zarqa, Jordan (1999 - 2003).

 

Prof. Omet has also participated in a number of consultancy projects funded by the World Bank, IMF, OECD, and the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC). In addition, he served as a member on various committees formed by the Jordanian government including the National Agenda Committee 2005.

 

He is the recipient of many awards, including the Fulbright Research Scholarship and the DAAD Research Scholarship. On his Fulbright Scholarship, Professor Omet conducted research at California State University, Dominguez Hills Carson, California during the summer of 1994. Professor Omet’s DAAD scholarship granted him the opportunity to work at the Karlsruhe University, Germany during the summer of 1996.

 

Furthermore, Prof. Omet is an accomplished scholar with over 80 peer-reviewed publications and numerous conference papers. His research focuses on pricing and operational efficiency of stock markets, financing of listed and family firms, financial development, and bank performance.


Prof. Ghassan has supervised over 100 MBA (Finance / Financial Economics) dissertations and 20 Ph.D. theses. Subsequently, nothing pleases Professor Omet more than seeing his students become successful scholars and researchers in academia.
