UJ Celebrates International Francophonie Day

The French Language Department at The University of Jordan (UJ) marked the International Francophone Day in a ceremony held at the university in the presence of the Vice President for Humanities Faculties Affairs / President of the University of Jordan in Aqaba; Dr. Hani Dmour and the Belgian Ambassador to Jordan; Thomas Baekelandt.

The International Francophonie Day celebrates the French language and Francophone culture around the world, and incorporates the selection of ten French words, as a symbol of the richness of the French language.

Chairman of the French Language Department, Dr. Narjes Ennaser said each year in early spring, the French-speaking countries celebrate the French language, pointing out that this year’s chosen words are related to creativity and innovation, and comes from different regions of the world; particularly France, Africa and Canada.
 
The celebration included a variety of activities presented by the students of the French Language Department, musicales featuring the students of Al Ahliah School, as well as a video prepared by Ms. Areej Najm about the ten words of the 2014 Francophone cultural season, and an exhibition showing the students’ paintings and writings.
