The results of this year’s summer session of the General Secondary Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) have triggered great concerns at the local levels.

UJ President, Prof. Ekhelif Tarawneh directed the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the university to research Tawjihi results, particularly the results of the literary stream.

In his letter to the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Bassam Al-Omari, Tarawneh pointed out that the results must not be overlooked, and should be researched and assessed.

Tarawneh requested that teaching members and postgraduate students at the faculty should provide a clear and specific vision concerning the advancement of the educational process and offer their appropriate guidance and suggestions to improve the quality of public education.

The overall passing rate for this year declined to 40 percent, compared to 56.3 for last year, and the rate for the literary stream dropped to 16.9 percent.

In parallel, Dean Al-Omari formed a committee of a number of senior faculty members to discuss and study the implications and consequences of the Tawjihi results. The committee shall come up with recommendations that will constitute a solid base for addressing this national issue. Results are expected in 3 weeks.
