The Deanship of Student Affairs at the University of Jordan distributed a booklet printed in Braille and a sign language CD to the new students with disabilities. The CD contains the most important instructions that will help the students during their academic life.
The CD and the booklet, which are prepared by the Department of Student Counseling, contain introducing the students to the facilities in the university and the procedure of getting the 90% discount on fees offered by the university.
In addition, they contain instructions for registration, the organization of the schedule, the availability of the academic courses in Braille, and the computer programs for visually impaired students. Furthermore, there are instructions on how to benefit from the psychological services which are offered by the deanship and which study the academic and social problems of the students and try to solve them.
Moreover, the students are introduced to the courses held to teach the skills of movement for new students who are visually impaired and there are also specialized courses for students with disabilities in the areas of sign language, Braille and Talking Computers. Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Ali Al- Alowaidi, said that The Department of Student Counseling is keen to communicate with the parents of the students in order to facilitate the process of integrating them into the university, translating lectures and exams for or hard-of-hearing students into sign language and accompanying them in the meetings held with the academic and administrative members as well as facilitating students' participation in extracurricular activities.
