Workshop on New Social Security Law

Under the patronage of Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Professor Imad Salah the Department of Human Resources organized a workshop about New Social Security Law for 2014 in cooperation with the Social Security Corporation.

The workshop aims to introduce UJ's staff to the latest implemented variety of laws in order to ensure that the employees preserve their rights, especially in cases of old age, work injury, and disability.  The new law is a comprehensive and sustainable social protection for all Jordanians. It seeks to expand certain benefits to subscribers and retirees. One of the most important amendments is that the benefits are raised to (%2.5) instead of (1.87%) in early retirement (at the age of 45).

In the workshop, which was attended by a large number of UJ's staff, Wafa'a Al-Duweik and Ayman Al-Masri talked about the stages of law's amendment.  In addition, she discuss different types of insurance, including  work injury insurance, old-age insurance, disability and death insurance, maternity insurance and unemployment insurance. Al-Duweik stressed that salaries eligible for social security deductions can only be up to JD3,000 and that the minimum monthly wage, as approved by the Labour Law, is JD 190.

Finally, AL-Masri discussed different types of work injuries, such as occupational injuries and accidents on the way to and from work. He also emphasized the procedures that should be followed by the institution in which the accident occurred and the obligations imposed on the Social Security Corporation regarding treatment, daily allowance, and salary.
