UJ Vice President for Scientific Research & Quality, Prof. Mohammad W. Batsh said the development of a new faculty evaluation system for the purpose of ascending to a higher rank or promotion is in line with UJ’s goals to improve higher education and become a world class university.

Batsh stated during a meeting with deans and heads of academic departments that the new system ensures transparency of the evaluation procedures as it - according to him - allows a faculty member to evaluate his own performance.

In justifying the new system, Batsh said that the former one overlooks aspects of quality of teaching and performance and focuses on research quality only, adding that it also disregards community service.

He pointed out in the presence of the Vice President for Humanities Faculties Affairs, Dr. Musa Al Lozi, that components for advancement in faculty rank include research production (60 points), teaching performance (25 points), and community service (15 points).

The community service assessment form Includes three aspects; the university community service, local community service, and the academic community service.

Speaking about the content of the faculty member’s teaching file, Batsh said that this file is a coherent set of items that reflect the teaching performance of a faculty with respect to students.

Moreover, he explained the purposes behind using the faculty member’s files, its usefulness, and its most important components.

In the conclusion, the attendees conversed extensively on the various topics of the meeting.
