The participants of the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies DIES-Seminar, entitled: “Stakeholder Involvement in Higher Education”, called for expanding the scope of cooperation in postgraduate education.
The two-day seminar was organized by UJ’s Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) in collaboration with the German Rectors’ Conference.
The participants stressed the need to increase scientific exchange in the fields of technology with a special focus on the industrial sector.
They also referred to the need to recognize the Jordanian higher education sector
needs in order to provide adequate support and funding.
The keynote speech was presented by Prof. Michael Pötzl, President of Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Germany.
Prof. Ekhleif Tarawneh, President of UJ, displayed transformations of the HE sector in Jordan and UJ, especially concerning expansion in the academic programs and stakeholder involvement.
Tarawneh stressed that human capital is the most important engine for development in Jordan and the Arab world.
He pointed out that UJ has achieved positive results concerning cooperation with stakeholders in the Jordanian society.
According to Tarawneh, 1500 employment opportunities for students were provided by “Injaz”.
Tarawneh stressed that UJ will continue to enhance its ties with the private sector to provide more training opportunities for students and researchers.
CSS Director Prof. Musa Shteiwi presented a paper entitled :“Recent Developments in the Jordanian Labour Market”.
Shteiwi pointed out that the Jordanian labor market is facing many challenges, notably the influx of Syrian refugees.
