Hearing and Speech Clinic Treats 6350 Conditions During Past Year

The Hearing and Speech Clinic at The University of Jordan, which is based at the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences, operates not only as a science learning and research center, but also provides therapeutic services for the local community.

Offering diagnostic and treatment services for persons of all ages with speech or language impairments, the Clinic has been able to provide treatment to 6350 conditions over the past year.

 

Clinic Director, Dr. Khader Joudeh told UJ news that the Hearing and Speech Clinic, today, provides the highest levels of medical and health treatment for patients who are suffering from  speech, language, and hearing problems  such as stuttering and mispronunciation, language delay, developmental disorders, and hearing impairment.

 

The Clinic, which was founded in 1987 upon a Royal Decree, was officially opened by HRH Princess Tharwat El-Hassan in 1990.

 

Joudeh also indicated that the Clinic provides undergraduate and postgraduate students who are specializing in Hearing and Speech Sciences with hands-on training from experienced faculty and professionals.

The clinic offers intensive treatment programs for various conditions including stuttering, voice disorders, speech and language delay, developmental disorders, hearing impairment, swallowing difficulties, reading and writing difficulties,  cleft palate, in addition to other diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services.

 

Moreover, the Clinic utilizes computerized case management system to track and categorize cases according to their conditions.

The Clinic comprise 16 speech therapy rooms, 8 audiology testing rooms, pediatric rehabilitation room, in addition to a computerized speech lab. It also contains a wide array of diagnostic equipment and materials including: Nasomanometer, Spirometer, Pitch Pipe, Computerized Speech Lab (CSL), Videostroboscope, Tympanometer, Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE), Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR), Pure Tone Audiometer, Portable Audiometer, Speech Audiometer.
