The Ultrasound lab at the Faculty of Medicine have been equipped with 6 advanced 4D Ultrasound machines.

The lab, which has been outfitted with the support of Samsung at a cost of about JOD600,000; is considered to have the latest ultrasound technology worldwide.

According to the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Darwish Badran, the lab is used to teach and train undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Faculty of Medicine on the use of this technology in the different medical fields.

Within their level of progress and accuracy, those devices are considered the advanced ones in the country, the 4D technology creates an image of the fetus in womb in real time, which allows a more accurate diagnosis.

The devices are linked to advanced computers with certain software programs that performs image processing and help in diagnosing certain conditions during pregnancy; this technology helps to confirm whether the pregnancy is located inside or outside the womb, determine the gestational age and follow-up fetal growth, diagnose Multiple pregnancy, assess the health and growth of the fetus, measure the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding the fetus, detect some severe congenital anomalies, determine the cause of bleeding during pregnancy, and determine the status of the fetus and the type of delivery, and to determine the gender of the baby.

In the future, as said by Badran, the faculty plans to expand the laboratory and add other state-of-the-art machines, so as to utilize the ultrasonography technique in other medical specialties. It also plans to hold a number of advanced training courses for faculty members at the university and other local medical sectors in the Kingdom provided by experts from outside Jordan on this technology.
