The Second Annual Conference of The University of Jordan Radio (UJ Radio) was inaugurated at UJ on Tuesday under the patronage of HRH Princess Rym Ali.
This year’s conference comes under the theme: “Radio journalism in Jordan and awareness against extremism and terrorism”.
Speaking at the Conference, Chairman of UJ’s board of trustees, Adnan Badran, said media is a powerful weapon in attacking terrorism and extremism, stressing the need to activate the role of all types of media to reach people with full transparency, integrity and credibility.
Badran who commended the role of UJ Radio in providing youth with information and knowledge, displayed a number of core issues that can be highlighted through media, particularly extremism and terrorism.
UJ President, Prof. Ekhleif Tarawneh, pointed out that journalists are in the front lines in the fight against terrorism and in warning the public against its dangers.
Also during his speech, Tarawneh announced the launch of UJ Radio fans club, marking the station’s sixth anniversary.
UJ Radio Director, Hind Khleifat, pointed to the media’s key role in spreading thoughts and culture, focusing on journalists as the producers of counter-extremism awareness and as the real weapon to defeat radicalism.
During the Conference, HRH Princess Rym Ali honored some of the early pioneers who contributed to the development of local radio stations.
The Conference’s first session was moderated by Dr. Muhannad Mubaideen, and featured all of Senator Dr. Jawad Anani, Former Minister of Culture Dr. Sabri Rbaihat, Director of Media Commission Dr. Amjad Qudah, Director of programs at Jordan Radio station Hatem Al Kiswany.
The second session was moderated by the Director-General of the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Faisal Shboul, and featured Jordan Media Institute Dean. Senator Haider Mahmoud, and Dean of the Faculty of Journalism at Al Zarqa Private University.
