Deputizing His Highness Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, UJ President Prof. Ekhleif Tarawneh on Tuesday inaugurated a symposium on the combat of doping and sport integrity.
The symposium, organized by Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC), Jordan Anti-doping Organization (JADO) and UJ, is
titled "Ethics in Fighting Doping and Sport Integrity.”
The two-session symposium aimed to address and raise awareness on the harmful effects of athletic performance-enhancing drugs (steroids) on the human body.
In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, Tarawneh emphasized on preserving the ethics and values of sport associated with fair play and competition.
The first session of the symposium was led by JOC Secretary General Lana Al Jaghbeer and Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education Dr. Walid Al Rahahleh, and featured guest lectures by Professor of Applied Ethics at Swansea University Dr. Michael Makanai, and UJ President Dr. Ekhleif Al Tarawneh.
Tarawneh’s lecture, entitled "Ethics and skills of university life", addressed the concept of ethics and the role of the university in building ethical values and the development of ethical climate on campus.
In his lecture, McNamee displayed ethical issues related to doping and sports medicine.
Dr. Kamal Al Hadidi and Dr. Jehan Mattar lead the second session, will included two lectures by McNamee and a paper by Dr. Maysoon Outum on “sociology, sports, and ethics”.
The Symposium was attended by sports leaders and heads of sports bodies in addition to faculty members, athletics, and staff working in the sports medicine.
