Two new units were inaugurated on Sunday, June 28, at the Cell Therapy Center (CTC) at UJ in presence of UJ President Prof. Ekhleif Tarawneh.
The Ophthalmology and Dental Units were made possible with the support of Saudi Fund for Development at the cost of UDS 750000.
The dental unit has been equipped with a very advanced dental chair and a 3D x-ray imaging unit.
The ophthalmology unit includes equipment that is capable of taking a coloured scan of the various strata of the corneal, as well as advanced equipment for retinal studies.
CTC currently has 3 ongoing research projects on eye diseases; two on the cornea and 1 on the retina. A major cornea project on the treatment of resistant corneal ulcers is to be completed soon using a product developed by the CTC. Preliminary analysis shows huge success, according to CTC Director, Prof. Awidi Abbadi.
As for the dental unit, Prof. Abbadi stated that CTC has successfully isolated the stem cells (SC) from four dental areas. Abbadi hopes that these SC will be incorporated in the various regenerative projects at the center.
On the latest developments at the center, the center managed to manufacture tissue-engineered bone graft. CTC aspires to become a regional center of excellence in the fields of cell therapy and stem cells biology.
