The University of Jordan (UJ) School of Nursing is on its way to be accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), said ‏School of Nursing Dean Prof. Fathia Abu Moghli.

According to Abu Moghli, the faculty has taken major steps toward accreditation after submitting an application for ACEN accreditation .

This came after an ACEN  evaluation team conducted a 3-day onsite visit to UJ from March 8 through March 10, 2016.

During the visit, UJSoN was evaluated on six ACEN standards; mission and administrative capacity, faculty and staff, students, curriculum, resources, and outcomes.

After onsite tours to the School, Library and the Admission and Registration Unit, interviews with students and faculty, as well as attending lectures, the visitors found UJSoN in compliance with ACEN standards, recommending to the Board of Commission that UJSoN be granted  the Candidate status.

The site visitors visited the Jordanian Nursing Council. They also met with UJ President Prof. Ekhleif Tarawneh, Vice-president for Scientific Faculties Affairs Prof. Azmi Mahafzah, and Vice-president for Scientific Research and Quality Prof. Mohammad Al Batsh.

The ACEN is the entity that is responsible for the specialized accreditation of nursing education programs, both postsecondary and higher degree, which offer either a certificate, a diploma, or a recognized professional degree.

UJSoN was established in 1972. It comprises three department; Clinical Nursing, Community Health Nursing, and Maternal and Child Health Nursing departments, and offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees in Nursing.
