The Hamdi Mango Center for Scientific Research (HMCSR) at the University of Jordan (UJ) honored the winners of the 2015 Ali Mango Award for Distinguished Researcher and Samia Mango Award for Distinguished Women Researcher. The winners were recognized at a ceremony held during the inauguration of the Center’s 6th Scientific Day, on Wednesday, June 1.
The Samia Mango Award went to UJ Professors Amira Masri and Violet Kasabri. Masri is a Professor of Pediatric Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine, while Kasabri is Associate Professor of biomedical sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
As for Ali Mango Award, Professor of Mathematics and Dean of the Faculty of Science, Shaher Momani, won the Basic Sciences and Information Technology category, whereas Dr. Nizar Mhaidat who teaches at the Jordan University of Science and Technology’s (JUST) Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences took home the award in the Pharmacy, Dentistry and Rehabilitation Sciences category.
The Graduate Students category of the award was given to Dr. Lubna Gharaibah, a Master’s student at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
Referring to the Samia Mango Award, HMCSR director Prof. Abla Bsoul said for the first time we have an award dedicated at recognizing and encouraging distinguished female researchers in the fields of basic and health sciences.
Established in 1999 with a continuing gracious grant by the late Mr. Ali Mango, HMCSR serves as independent university unit dedicated to the support of interdisciplinary as well as well-defined research projects in the fields of Applied Science and Technology.
