Representative of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Kingdom Dr. Stefano Severe delivered a lecture at the University of Jordan (UJ) on Tuesday, December 20.

The lecture, titled "Syrian Refugees Response in Jordan", was organized by Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II School of International Studies.

During his lecture, Severe commended Jordan's response to the Syrian refugee crisis and aid offered to the refugees since the beginning of the conflict.

Sever said Jordan is on top of the countries that have borne the heaviest burden of the Syrian refugee crisis, and has always opened its boarders to those who are seeking asylum in spite of its social and economic challenges.

He stressed the need for concerted international efforts to help Jordan carry on in fulfilling its duties towards this humanitarian crisis.

The guest speaker also spoke about the humanitarian conditions of the Syrian refugees in Jordan, especially those who are living in Zaatari camp, the largest Syrian refugee camp in the world, pointing out that 93% of Syrian refugees in urban areas in Jordan are living below the poverty line.

The lecture was moderated by the School's Assistant Dean for International Academic Relations Dr. Nasser Tahboub.
