The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research warned students who want to study abroad of unauthorised actors or individuals that secure admissions to universities abroad, through advertisements, links or social media sites.
In a statement sent to The Jordan Times, the ministry called on the students to use the university service offices authorised by the ministry and listen to the ministry’s website.
The statement said that the ministry will follow up with student’s complaints and safeguard their rights.
The ministry, in the statement, also warned students of advertisements that promote study abroad programmes in fake or unrecognised universities.
Hala Zuhair, a Jordanian mother, told The Jordan Times that when her daughter and son wanted to enroll in college they checked the ministry’s website to make sure the universities were recognised.
“We hear a lot about individuals and front companies that claim they provide study abroad services, so it is important to check first,” Zuahir added.
Reem Masoud, a 22-year-old Jordanian, said that two years ago when she started applying for study abroad programmes, she went to her university’s study abroad office.
“Studying abroad needs planning and there are many things to be taken care of before the student leaves the Kingdom,” she said.
