The University of Jordan (UJ) on Thursday launched a master's degree program in artificial intelligence and robotics jointly between the computer engineering and mechatronics departments.
The program is part of the Developing Curricula for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (DeCAIR) project co-funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ Program. It aims at providing the regional and local labor markets with cadres specialized in this field in light of the increasing demand for artificial intelligence in all areas worldwide.
During the launching ceremony, UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat commended establishing such program, which, he said, affirmed that the university is "heading in the right direction and keeping pace with technological developments."
Coordinator of DeCAIR project, Prof. Gheith Abandah said the project was conducted in response to the fourth industrial revolution when artificial intelligence and robotics technologies prevailed. According to Abandah, it also seeks to develop courses for 6 bachelor's and 5 master's degrees programs in partner Jordanian and Lebanese universities.
He also noted that European experts helped develop artificial intelligence and robotics plans and curricula and offered 19 training courses for the faculty staff and students at UJ, adding that designated laboratories were built by the project.
