The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, on Sunday met with faculty members of humanities schools to discuss the university’s developmental plans and its academic status after the end of a year and the beginning of a new one.

During the meeting, Obeidat stressed the university's continuation of open-door policy, and its endeavour to build a strong relation with the student body.
 
Obeidat said that some of the university's buildings are 60 years old, so it is necessary to reconsider their rehabilitation as required.

 
Speaking of priorities and challenges, Obeidat indicated that the first priority is to proceed with the hall's renovation project, which managed to gather 1.5 M Jordanian Dinar from donors.

Moreover, Obeidat indicated that the university should have a role in meeting the society's needs and in preparing students to meet the needs of the workforce, without neglecting the fact that students are individuals who possess a mixture of different life skills.

He also stressed, during the meeting, which was moderated by the Vice President for Humanitarian Schools, Prof. Salameh Naimat and attended by UJ vice-presidents, the importance of improving the students' language skills.
 
The president revealed that 50% of postgraduate students in Jordan are at UJ, stressing the need to select top students for graduate studies.

Furthermore, Obeidat expressed cheerfulness for entering Shanghai Ranking of the world universities as the first university in Jordan to do so, confirming the need to continue advancing on all international rankings.

In light of the changing methods of education worldwide, Obeidat stressed that the future is heading towards innovative education, which puts us before the inevitability of improving lecturing and the utilisation of innovative educational tools.
 
Answering the comments and inquiries of faculty members, Obeidat noted that the university has no intention to raise tuition fees.
