Graduation of Participants in ‘Psychosocial Support for Syrian Refugees’ Program

The School of Nursing at the University of Jordan (UJ) celebrated the graduation of the first group of 25 participants in the ‘Psychosocial Support for Syrian Refugees in Jordan’ training program, under the patronage of UJ President Prof. Abdel karim Al Qudah.


This program aims at raising the level of efficiency of workers in the field of refugee services to improve their abilities at providing psychosocial care for Syrian refugees. This program was carried out through the cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation  (GIZ) and the Center of Consultation and Training at UJ. 


The Dean of the School, Prof. Manar Al-Nabulsi said in her speech that the program parallels with UJ's message in contributing to the society and the participation of its institutions to raise the level of medical care that is offered.

She added that the School, in participation with its partners, made sure to carry out the program efficiently so as to achieve the desired goals.


The director of the GIZ program, Dr. Kristina Müller expressed happiness in the graduation of the first group of this program, which is designed to qualify the workers in medical, psychological and social fields to provide psychosocial support for the refuges. She also praised the efforts of the School at UJ that contributed in making the program a success, noting that UJ is the first university in Jordan that carried out such a project.


General Coordinator and Project Supervisor Dr. Ayman Mansour, from the School of Nursing emphasized the importance of this program that will help the refugees adapt and integrate in the host society instead of being dependent on it. Mansour explained the mechanism of the four-year project.

 

Training courses will be held that will last three months yearly, through which the participants who work in governmental and international sectors, organizations, charities, and NGO’s related to providing services for refugees will receive theoretical lectures at the rate of 66 hours, 42 hours of practical training in addition to 29 hours of distance learning.

These lectures will educate them in skills of adaptation, integration, resilience, self-improvement, and scientific methods in solving problems, overcoming psychological difficulties and improving Family and community relations.  


In the conclusion of the ceremony, the Vice President of Scientific schools at UJ Dr. Zaid Al-Baqain handed out Shields to the distinguished participants and certificates to the program's coordinators, lecturers and trainers. He also exchanged with the German Corporation for International Cooperation commemorative shields.
