The University of Jordan (UJ) on Monday signed a cooperation agreement with "IREX" to set out arrangements on financial and material resources concerning the implementation of the USAID Preservice Teacher Education in Jordan Program, a vocational diploma program for the training of teachers prior to beginning their teaching career.
The agreement, signed by UJ’s President Professor Nathir Obeidat and the program director Dr. Cameron Mirza, aims to provide a modern educational environment that encourages participation and interaction by providing all the needs of practical training, modern equipment, the necessary technology, trained staff, resources, and the development and furnishing of halls with modern educational equipment and tools.
It also included the approval and accreditation of the program, the selection of staff and trainers, management structure, teacher's roles and responsibilities, and the preparation of program facilities like classrooms, scientific laboratories, library and studying areas with a focus on providing a comfortable environment for students and ensuring a student-centered learning experience.
The USAID Preservice Teacher Education in Jordan program is a five-year initiative to increase the number of fully qualified grade 4–10 teachers and better prepare them for the classroom.
