Dr. Hanan Sa'adeh and postgraduate student Sara Aburugia from the Department of Physics at the School of Science recently participated in an international scientific conference in China.

The 23rd International Conference on Ion Beam Analysis (IBA2017) took place in Fudan University, Shanghai, China, from 8 to 13 October, 2017.

Sa'adeh delivered an oral presentation titled "Characterization of fine particulate matter in an urban area in Amman by PIXE and gravimetric measurements". In her presentation, Sa'adeh addressed the use of particle induced x-ray emission (PIXE) in elemental analysis of aerosol samples.

Master student Sara Aburugia presented a poster titled "Atmospheric impact of construction work on fine particulate matter in The University of Jordan: a PIXE Study", highlighting a case study from her master thesis supervised by Dr. Sa'adeh at JUVAC (The University of Jordan Van de Graff Accelerator).

Her poster has won the Outstanding Poster Award alongside with 6 excellent posters selected out of 147 posters presented in the conference.

The IBA conference is a biennial series meeting started in 1973 with a long tradition of being an international forum to discuss recent developments and future prospects in ion beam analysis.

In IBA 2017, the six-day conference explored 92 research papers and 147 posters dealing with the latest research using ion beam analysis (IBA) and IBA-based applications.

The UJ delegate from the Department of Physics represented Jordan in the Conference which saw the participation of over 220 scholars from 41 countries.
