The Executive Director of the Jordan Transparency Center, Hilda Ajeilat said, during a lecture that was held in the University of Jordan (UJ) at an invitation from the Center for Development and Community Service, the initiative of universities against corruption that was launched by the Center is focusing on raising awareness amongst the university’s youth on this phenomenon.
She added, corruption is a violation for the principles of integrity, and is the exploitation of a position for personal benefit. She also noted, the initiative’s indicators have accomplished tangible achievements, especially during the participation of the youth knights of transparency in the Global Anti-Corruption day that was held in Beirut.
During the lecture, which was attended by the Vice President of the Community Service / President of the University of the Jordan branch in Aqaba, Prof. Musa Al-Lousi, Ajeilat presented the efforts of implementing the initiative which is supported by twelve official Jordanian universities. She also encouraged the universities to adopt courses on combatting corruption, and preparing research and scientific studies that handle the different aspects of this phenomenon in order to find the proper solutions for it. Furthermore, she encouraged the universities to establish clubs that advocate for integrity and for the establishing of extracurricular activities and events that highlight the impact of corruption on societies.
During the lecture a discussion was held, in which a number of participants presented proposals on the importance of intensifying the national efforts to combat and eliminate this phenomenon. One of these participants was Al-Lousi ; he praised the vision and outlooks of the Jordan Transparency Center. He also affirmed the University’s support for the Center’s effort in the participation of the university’s youth society for the study of the phenomena of corruption from different aspects, pointing to the need to increase awareness of the dangers of corruption in all its forms to prevent it from further spreading and to reduce its negative effects.
It is noteworthy that the Jordanian Transparency Center was established in 2011 and is a non-governmental and non-profit institution that supports Jordanian efforts to eradicate corruption. The Center launched a university initiative against corruption in early 2017 to allow university students to contribute to combating this scourge in Jordan and Arab nations.
