Korea's Experience in Economic and Industrial Development Displayed at UJ

The University of Jordan (UJ) hosted the Korean scholar Prof. Ju Dong Ju from the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade (KIET), a leading institutes in economic and industrial decision-making and trade policy-making in Korea. 
 
Prof. Ju Dong Ju, who is also the Vice-President of the Korea Association of International Development and Cooperation (KAIDEC), lectured on “Growth and Economic and Industrial Development of the Republic of Korea: Policy and Performance from a Historical Perspective".
 
The lecture, which was held in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Amman, was attended by UJ President Prof. Abdel karim Al Qudah and the Korean Ambassador Lee Boom-Yun, Vice President Prof. Ahmad Majdoubeh, Vice President Prof. Musa Al-Lozi, a number of faculty, staff and students.
 
The Korean expert presented a detailed presentation about the Korean experience during which he talked about matters concerning growth, development, and economic, industrial and commercial advancements since the fifties of last century till this day, stating that the GDP of the Republic of Korea increased by more than 400 times compared to 1953. Dong Ju concluded with a set of lessons learned from this experience, most notably focusing on the pivotal role of the government in setting priorities for economic development, especially those that aim to give priority to export and the gradual and continuous elimination of imports.
 
Boom-Yun opened the meeting by thanking the University for its Keenness in solidifying cooperative relationships with the Embassy, and in solidifying all means of academic and cultural cooperation for the benefit of both countries.
 
Acting Dean of the School of Business Prof. Samer Aldhayat, who moderated the lecture, explained that the organization of the lecture comes in the context of UJ's intellectual and academic role to open dialogue in Jordan on ways to promote the economy in the face of local economic challenges.
 
On the sideline of the event, a memorandum of understanding and cooperation was signed between UJ and the National Institute for International Education in Korea, stipulates for the exchange of education information and experiences, followed by honoring both the Korean expert Prof. Ju Dong Ju and the Korean Ambassador Lee Boom-Yun.
