UJ Participates in SUN's 8th General Assembly

Deputizing for the University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, Vice President for Humanitarian Schools, Prof. Salameh Naimat, partook in the 8th General Assembly of the Silk-Road University Network (SUN), held from February 13- 15 at the Canadian University Dubai.

The General Assembly included a panel discussion under the theme "The Role of Universities in the Era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data (BD): Challenges & Opportunities". The panel constituted an opportunity to discuss ways to enhance collaboration between member universities in handling current massive technological changes.

During the panel, Naimat addressed actions taken by UJ to cope with the era of artificial intelligence and big data, indicating that the university seeks, within its vision, to apply the principles of quality management and the latest technological advancements in its programs and strategies.

He explained that UJ is constantly reviewing its programs and has recently updated its curricula to include courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and Data Science in the Department of Computer Engineering, and the establishment of two bachelor's programs in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science in 2020.

He also referred to the establishment of a joint master's program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics between the departments of computer engineering and mechatronics engineering in 2022, as part of the Erasmus Plus project DECAIR.

Naimat noted that UJ's future plans in this field include the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) center run by scholars from the University, to provide consultations in the field, in addition to working on developing artificial intelligence models that can help solve challenges facing different sectors in Jordan.

UJ is a founding member of Silk Road Universities Network (SUN). The  network seeks, through education and training, to create future leaders better equipped to promote peace and harmony in line with Silk-Road.
