The University of Jordan (UJ) President Prof. Azmi Mahafzah confirmed on Saturday that UJ administration will fearlessly enforce campus laws and regulations, particularly Student Disciplinary Regulations, based on the recommendations of the investigative committees.

"UJ will not submit to such conduct, and we will not manage the University fearing the threat of clusters that are unaware of the significant role played by this educational institution," the president added during a television debate on last week's campus clashes.

Mahafzah urged the University students to stand against such disgraceful behavior.

He also called media outlets and social media networks to investigate the accuracy and credibility of any news before publication, adding that dramatizing news reports will not only serve to increase anxiety, but will also fuel the dispute between the conflict parties.

When answering questions regarding measures to be taken by the University regarding what happened, Mahafzah said the investigative committees are currently studying the collected evidence, adding that any student who proved to have taken part in the brawl will be suspended from the University.

With regards to responding to violence on campus, the President called upon the community to assume its responsibilities, each from his/her position, in the fight against this phenomenon.

Prof. Mahafzah said UJ will continue its role in promoting the values of dialogue, democracy and tolerance among its students, "what happened is not consistent with our system of values," he said, adding that the University will take all steps to end violence on campus.
