Renovated Pediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit at UJ Hospital Inaugurated

The University of Jordan (UJ) President Prof. Azmi Mahafzah on Thursday, July 27, opened the newly renovated Pediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit at the University Hospital.

 

The Unit was provided with new equipment for Pediatric endoscopy including Six new Pediatric gastroscopes and colonoscopes at the cost of around JD 100,000.

 

For the first time in Jordan, the unit was equipped with two types of probes used for monitoring esophageal pH and identifying gastroesophageal reflux disease (impedance probes) and esophageal motility.

 

Mahafzah commended the efforts exerted by the Hospital's staff and medical teams in serving patients and developing its medical services, as well as in supporting scientific research in all health fields.

 

Dr. Fareed Khdair, Head of Pediatric Gastroenterology section, said the new instruments will contribute significantly to the early diagnosis of gastrointestinal and malabsorption diseases in children. In addition, it enables the conduct of interventional operations, such as esophageal varices banding, placement of stomach feeding tubes through the skin, and removal of polyps from the colon.

 

The ceremony was attended by the Director of the University Hospital Prof. Abdul Aziz Ziadat, Dean of the School of Medicine Prof. Nazir Obaidat, Deputy Director of the Hospital for Medical Affairs, Dr. Imad Al-Abdalat.
