UJ School Teacher Wins Khalifa Award for Education

Jawaher Al Ghwairi, an educator at the University of Jordan School (UJS), was honored at the 11th edition of the Khalifa Award for Education, held on Monday, April 16, in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
 
Al Ghwairi won the 2018 Khalifa Award for Education in the General Education field, Arab Creative Teacher Category.
 
The award is granted to a teacher whose performance is exceptional, proved by the results of application set of instruments, and based on clear academic criteria and specific key performance indicator (Leadership, Teaching competencies, Professional development, Personal and social initiatives, Education and the sustainable environment, evaluation, research, Opinions of parents and students).
 
She has been a science teacher for seventeen years, incorporating active education activities into classroom and using creative educational methods that create a stimulating environment for creativity and talent by diversifying the teaching and evaluation methods, and practicing creative thinking, critical thinking, and communication and collaboration skills.
 
"A creative teacher should believe in the excellence and uniqueness of students," Al Ghwairi said. "I always work on encouraging their curiosity and their spirit of discovery and inquiry by motivating them to present their ideas creatively, and practicing higher thinking levels in the analysis and synthesis of objects," she added.
 
Al Ghwairi holds a PhD with distinction in Curriculum and Teaching in the Field of Science from UJ, Master's degree in Science Teaching Methods, and a Bachelor degree in Chemistry from the Hashemite University.
