The University of Jordan (UJ) President Prof. Azmi Mahafzah examined with a delegation from Cambridge University, England, the results of the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) tryout which was undertaken by a number of medical and dental students at UJ.
The aim of the trial was to examine the effectiveness of the test in measuring the student’s skills and knowledge, and as an entry requirement after the preparatory year.
The delegation was headed by Cambridge English Regional Director/Middle East, Turkey and Africa Ramiz Haddadin and comprised of Andy Chamberlain, Assistant Director Admissions Testing Service at Cambridge English Language Assessment, and Mark Shannon Assessment, Group Manager at Cambridge Assessment.
According to Haddadin, BMAT is used by the University of Cambridge and other prestigious universities in the UK, as well as in Italy, Malaysia, Spain and Hong Kong, and Netherland.
The meeting was attended by all of Prof. Islam Massad, Dean of the School of Medicine and Prof. Zaid Baqain, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry.
470 and 70 dental and medical students respectively took the test which consists of three sections: Aptitude and Skills, Scientific Knowledge and Applications, and Writing Task.
The two sides also examined the possibility of using the Cambridge English exams and curriculum by the University at the university.
BMAT is offered by the Admissions Testing Service, part of Cambridge English Language Assessment, a not-for-profit department of the University of Cambridge.
Language Center Director Dr. Mahmoud Shura’a, International Relations Office Director Dr. Rami Ali, Dr. Nafez abu-Tarboush and Dr. Abeer Hadidi were also at the meeting.
