Bahraini Health Delegation Visits UJ

The University of Jordan (UJ) President Prof. Azmi Mahafzah on Thursday met with a high-level Bahraini delegation from the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA).
 
The delegation, headed by NHRA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mariam Adhbi Al-Jalahma, were visiting the University to benefit from its experience in the field of clinical stem cells and stem cells research as part of plans to establish a similar project in Bahrain.
 
They also expressed desire to benefit from the Jordanian stem cell therapies and research strategies and regulations.
 
Prof. Mahafzah expressed UJ's keenness to build bridges of cooperation with the Authority, pointing out that UJ started stem cell research in 2008 and has since achieved significant strides.
 
Mahafzah added that King Abdulla II ibn Al-Hussein officially inaugurated the Cell Therapy Centre (CTC) in 2016.
 
The delegation toured the Centre and held a meeting with its director Prof. Abdullah Abbadi and other officials.
 
Prof. Abbadi informed the delegates about the establishment and operations of the Center, in addition to governmental laws and regulations governing the field.
 
He told them that CTC is affiliated with the University and has fifty researchers, nine of whom hold PhD degrees, working on several research projects.
 
NHRA, which is an independent regulatory body, is responsible for the licensing and regulation of healthcare professionals, healthcare facilities and medicines in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
