The University of Jordan (UJ) President Professor Nathir Obeidat met in his office on Tuesday with the United Nations (UN) Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Anders Pedersen, and the Head of UNESCO Office to Jordan Min Jeong Kim, to discuss prospects of academic and cultural cooperation.
Issues raised during the meeting were related to higher education in Jordan, the university's educational process, efforts to link educational outcomes to the labour market, skills development, and related challenges such as brain drain and low participation rates of female graduates in the labour market.
The meeting also examined ways to support and develop the UN Depository Library at UJ's main library and the possibility of creating a cultural corner to highlight the efforts and tasks of the organization.
Moreover, the two sides agreed to translate cooperation through joint workshops, seminars and conferences that will contribute to introducing students to the roles played by the organization at all levels.
On a visit to the main Library, UJ Library Unit Director Dr. Mujahed Thneibat, provided a glimpse of the contents and services of the library, which has been a depository center for UN publications since 1970.
The meeting was attended by UNESCO Programme Officer Ikhlas Al Khawaldeh Ekhlas Al-Khawaldeh, and Director of the Media, Public Relations and Radio Unit and Library Unit Director at the university.
