The Faculty of Languages at the University of Jordan (UJ) has marked the fourth anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Language Section at the Department of Asian Languages.

 

The celebration intended to shed light on the achievements of the Section since 2009 until 2013.

 

UJ Vice President for Humanities Faculties Affairs, Prof. Hani Dmour said the University recognizes the importance of international languages and their role in promoting mutual understanding and intellectual cooperation between nations, pointing to the function of language as a tool for expressing human thoughts, feelings and culture.

 

Dmour added that the University constantly seeks to develop its language programs in terms of content, teaching methods, assistive devices and audio-visual equipment as well as attracting distinguished educators capable of arming students with science and knowledge.

 

From her part, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Prof. Zahra Awad explained that the college paid particular attention to the modern languages, Eastern and Western, based on its approach to open up to other human cultures and the idea that language is a system basically founded on the culture of its people.
 
From his part, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Jordan, "Sedat Unal" expressed pleasure on attending this ceremony, praising the great attention given to the Turkish language at the University and pointing to the deep rooted relationship between Jordan and Turkey.

 

The coordinator of the Turkish section’s activities, Dr. Bagdagul Mussa, revealed that the number of students studying Turkish language at the university is about 280 students.

 

In addition, the University provides educational opportunities in Turkish universities for excellent students, given that three students have joined the Ataturk University within the "A bridge between cultures" program, and two students are studying at Gazi University within the exchange program between the two universities, also ten students are studying at different Turkish universities under the support of Yunus Emre Institute.

 

Moreover, the University has sent four students to study at the Ondokuz Mayıs University, and two to Ataturk University within the "Maulana" program.

 

The ceremony program included Turkish poems and songs, and competitions all prepared and presented by Turkish language students.
