MoU to Collect WWI Oral History in Jordan
The University of Jordan (UJ) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding with four European institutes to develop cooperation in the framework of a joint Franco-German project.

The project seeks to collect and document the oral history of the First World War period in Jordan.

The MoU was signed with all of the French Institute for the Near East (IFPO), the French Institute in Jordan, and Goethe Institute in Amman.

The overall aim of this cooperation is to constitute a pool of young researchers and to sensitise the younger generation about cultural heritage.

Under the MoU, students from the Department of History will receive training in researching and recording oral history by experienced anthropologists and experts.

Also, two professors from UJ will participate in a workshop in order to prepare them for supervising the students’ work.

The project consists of collecting oral testimonies from Jordanians who have heard stories from people that lived during that period.

After the research is completed, the collected data will be archived at the National Library of Jordan.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Mohammad Qudah, Chairman of Department of History Prof. Isam Oglah, representatives of the French and German institutes, and students from the Department of History.
