Conference on Women in Academia Organized
The Association of Jordanian Women Academics, in cooperation with the University of Jordan (UJ), organized its first international scientific conference, titled: "Women in Academia", with wide Arab and international participation.
 
In his address at the opening, UJ President, Prof. Abdul Karim Al Qudah said academic women have valuable role in bringing about change and development in higher education sector.
 
Jordanian women have proven dominance in obtaining higher education, where female students constitute the largest proportion of enrolled students in the Jordanian universities, he added.
 
Dr. Lubna Akroush, Conference President, President of the Association, indicated that the conference is the first of its kind in the Middle East, and aims at highlighting the actual status of women in academia in the Jordanian universities, their rights, and challenges they encounter.
 
The event also seeks to recognize the contributions of academic women to the fields of scientific research and community engagement, promote partnership and cooperation between academic women and national and international institutions and organizations, exchange experiences between academics from the participating countries, and disseminate research findings to highlight progress of women's contributions and achievements in academia.
 
The conference was attended by academics, postgraduate students and researchers from various public and private universities in Jordan, the Arab world and some foreign countries. 110 male and female scholars participated with research papers on the status of academic women in the Middle East and the world.
