American Jordanian University Cooperation Network (UCN) Event Inaugurated

The second conference held within the framework of the U.S.-Jordanian University Network (UCN) was inaugurated at the University of Jordan (UJ) on Sunday under the patronage of the university president Prof. Nathir Obeidat.

Held under the title "New Approaches to U.S.-Jordan University Collaboration for Sustainable Development", the event is part of the U.S.-Jordan partnership for University Leadership and Student Engagement (PULSE) project.

UJ Vice president Prof. Inaam Khalaf, who deputized the president, lauded the event, signifying that it is a prosperous and promising opportunity for academics and researchers from both Jordan and the U.S. to meet for purposes of networking, discussing pressing contemporary challenges that hinder the wheel of development, and drafting rich and promising agendas.

For her part, Director of the International Affairs Unit at the university, Dr. Hadeel Yaseen, said that UJ has taken the precedence in having the chance to lead the first two consecutive phases of UCN’s cooperative projects, stating that this cooperative partnership begun in 2018 when 8 U.S. universities and 9 Jordanian universities joined to shed light on the most pressing and critical issues faced by the institutions of higher education in both countries.

During the plenary session, UJ Vice President for Humanities Faculties, Dr. Ahmed Majdouba, appraised current and future directions for UJ – American universities cooperation, calling for more cooperation in capacity building programs, and providing support with regard to admission of sponsored postgraduate degrees students into American universities.

The two-day conference will discuss a number of themes related to the future directions of cooperation between American and Jordanian universities, and other topics including innovation in university teaching and learning for student engagement, agriculture, technology and artificial intelligence, as well as topics related to sustainable development goals, such as public health, energy and climate change.
