School of Nursing Discusses Women's Health in Light of COVID-19 Pandemic

In continuation of the cooperation between the School of Nursing at the University of Jordan (UJ) and the Women and Health Initiative at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the US, a seminar entitled "Women's Health in Light of the Covid-19 Pandemic: Indicators and Aspirations" was organized at the University on Thursday.

 

The event was attended by UJ Vice President for Scientific Schools Prof. Ashraf Abu Karaki, and Vice President for Quality and Accreditation Prof. Inaam Khalaf, and the Dean of the School of Nursing, Prof. Areej Othman.

 

The seminar highlighted evidence regarding the Covid-19 pandemic's impact on women's health - particularly that there is a connection between women's health and gender roles in societies - which may have affected the distribution of societal roles between men and women, regardless of biological differences.

 

Othman gave a presentation on current research related to women's health during the Covid-19 pandemic in Jordan, to come out with a review that the majority were limited to the scope of reproductive health, family planning issues, and menstrual disorders.

 

For her part, Director of the Women and Health Initiative at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Prof. Anna Langer, spoke about some scientific results inspired by global indicators related to gender differences in reaction to Covid-19 pandemic, due to biological differences or as a result of monitoring observations related to the development and occurrence of the disease, and societal differences related to the impact of the pandemic on women from a gender perspective.

 

Her colleague Dr. Joel Gusman referred to the intersections between women's health and societal factors represented by the distribution of roles in society and the extent of their impact on women's health.

 

The two guest speakers uttered happiness with this event, expressing keenness to continue work and partnership with the School of Nursing the fields of research related to women's health.
