School of Arts and Design Marks Beethoven's 190th Anniversary

In commemoration of the 190th anniversary of the death of Ludwig van Beethoven, the School of Arts and Design's Music Department organized in cooperation with the Media and Public Relations Department and the German Embassy in Amman a seminar presented by the German maestro Georg Mais.
 
At the seminar, Mais spoke about the life and work of Beethoven, including his nine symphonies.
 
The seminar was moderated by the School's Vice Dean Dr. Rami Haddad and attended by all of the Head of Cultural & Press Department at the German Embassy Dr. Jaime Sperberg, Director of UJ Media and Public Relations Department Dr. Sulaiman Farajat and Chairman of Music Department Dr. Haitham Sukkareih.
 
Mais presented his notes about each of Beethoven's nine symphonies, in addition to a full musical analysis of the first symphony.
 
Georg Mais studied violin, viola and conducting at the music academies in Trossingen, Freiburg and Stuttgart, Germany. After graduation he attended masterclasses by Karl Münchinger, Sergiu Celibidache, Helmuth Rilling and John Elliot Gardiner.
 
He conducted several orchestras worldwide and he is the artistic director of the Eifel Mozart Weeks. Founded in 2001, it is one of the largest music festivals in the Rhineland Palatinate, Germany. Moreover, Mais serves as the artistic director of the International Lake Constance Music Competition since 2009.
